Recycle, Reuse and Redesign...
More often than not, when a space is
redesigned
the furniture is bound for the
trash. Even more so in commercial and public spaces. This cast iron base, well worn transit station
seating was built for sustainability. But sustainability only works when we use it to its full potential. I
have taken this chair that was once a piece of "trash" and transformed it into, The Boca Chair. Displaying
a beautiful example of how something old, worn and amazingly sustainable, can be reused instead of contributing
to the already overfilled landfills.
The new design is inspired
by a barreling wave. Immense and curling around you, it’s hard not to melt between its high arms. A
clear reflection of the oceans barreling wave as it curls into a large white symphony. The design also evolved
around incorporating the reuse of the original materials as much as possible, wasting less then 8% of the original
chair. The Boca Chair is a sleek modern design, constructed with over 75% reused or recycled materials.
